What is a Scrapbooking Folder or Lapbook?

A Scrapbooking Folder™ is a shutterfolded file folder (found at office supply stores) or poster board filled with booklets (described below).

Using this system students decorate and fill the file folders. Students create booklets for each lesson in a unit. At the end of each unit, the booklets are glued to the inside of a decorated folder. You may have heard these called shutter books, pocket books, Scrap Folders, graphic organizers, desktop projects, lapbooks™ (the term Lapbook is trademarked by Tobinslab.com) and other various names.

Hi
We've done a few lapbooks, mostly ones we've just cobbled together ourselves, though I've also bought HOAC books. I go through phases of different levels of creativity, and right now I need some extra inspiration!

I am new to lapbooking and have a couple of half completed "kits". I really, really enjoy this approach and I think my son (7 yo) does too. Because we are "Delight Directed" (or maybe, in our case, just not so good at delayed gratification?) we have started learning about a lot of different things in several different directions. My son has a sudden interest in the Chronicles of Narnia and we are reading the Magician's Nephew. As we read it, I am becoming aware that in my thoughts I am forming a lapbook. I would love some suggestions! I think I would like to showcase character issues, storyline and Biblical parallels. I'd like to add some applicable Bible verses. My sketchy thoughts include bullet points noted with green and yellow rings (from the story). Maybe an apple tree with silver apples that you lift up to reveal something written that is relevant to that particular chapter (we haven't gotten that far in the book yet). I would LOVE any ideas or links that would help me put this together. Once done, I'd be glad to share it with the group.

I wanted to mention that though we have many wonderful hands of a child, and Zike resources we have yet to do a book! I print pages and read aloud from them.

I am planning to compromise and have the FAMILY do some together as a group effort this seems more do able with our particular ages, attention spans.

Others may consider using the group effort approach.
